Meet our Staff & Directors

Ms Annie Han-Jeon

Choir Director, Children's Choir

Annie Han-Jeon started music by playing the piano at early age. Her passion and appreciation for music grew when she started studying voice in the Academy program at the Mount Royal University. As a young singer, she competed at the Calgary Kiwanis Festival and was a member of different choirs in the city. Upon her high school graduation, she moved to Edmonton where she completed Bachelor of Arts and After Degree Education, specializing in Music Education. She has recently moved back to Calgary, where she is working as an elementary music teacher at the Calgary Waldorf School. She is currently a member of the Mount Royal Kantorei as a soprano.

Mr. Jean-Louis Bleau

Choir Director, Youth Choir

Jean-Louis Bleau has been very involved in the Calgary and area arts scene for a number of years – organizing numerous concerts and music events while maintaining a successful career as a choral conductor. He is a very active conductor who, in addition to directing the Mount Royal Youth Choir, also directs the Calgary Men’s Chorus, Cum Vino Cantus, and the choirs at Calgary’s St. Gerard’s Parish. He has also directed The Calgary Renaissance Singer’s and Players, and the Airdrie Community Choir. His passion for music, especially choral music, is evident through his unique and expressive conducting style, and his enthusiastic approach to rehearsals. He is known for asking his choirs to engage difficult music, always seeking to push the members past their perceived limitations in order to produce music which – while challenging – is ultimately, very rewarding.

Jean-Louis has always sought to push the boundaries of choral music and the concert experience through unique collaborations and concert events. This has resulted in performances around a lake in the heart of Kananaskis, concert events in the planetarium, parking garages, an industrial shop and most recently a swimming pool. He has work to collaborate not only with other choirs but also a variety of musicians, choreographers, dancers, and even synchronized swimmers.

Jean-Louis received his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Calgary and was honored in 2005 by the Fine Arts Department, when he was presented with the Creative Achievement Award for work he did to organize and execute a conference and music festival based on the music of John Cage.
